Finish Fit boot camp has demonstrated to me that I am VERY capable of pushing my body to its limits. Prior to starting the class I was nervous because it had been a really long time since I had been physically active. With Finish Fit I am now 5 pounds away from my pre-baby weight, something I had been trying to lose for two years! Thanks Lauren, Brett and Armen for helping me lose 10 pounds in four weeks!

David Binns
My name is David Binns. I began working out three years ago and while I was able to lose weight, I still lacked tone. I began lifting but only showed very small results after a year. Since I have started training with Armen, I have gained about 8 lbs of muscle in a short 3 months. I have more energy, better stamina, and my workout regimen has improved as well to be more rounded. These are things that I tried to do myself by reading books on the subject but that I am now convinced only comes with years experience and an extended education in training. These are both things that Armen possesses and has used to guide me to very favorable results. Using his advice I have improved my diet, and focused on foods that help burn fat and build muscle. My workouts have reached new levels with him pushing me to attain the best results. Armen has also helped me to create a workout schedule for the whole week, not just at personal training. I would recommend personal training to anyone who wants fast results that last.

Sight for Sore Eyes

Why you should consider wearing blue-light glasses.

How long do you spend staring at a screen each day? It may be more than you think. The average adult spends nearly four hours a day on the computer, tablet, or cell phone. If you use a computer for your job, you may spend nearly all day staring at a screen. At the end of the day, you could experience digital eye strain or have trouble sleeping at night. Could eye strain and sleep problems be caused by excessive blue light exposure from screens?
Possibly. But it doesn’t have to any more.

Blue-light blocking glasses are gaining popularity among people who stare at screens for long periods of time. What is blue light and do special glasses really protect your eyes from its dangers? Keep reading to find out.

What Is Blue Light?

All light seen by the human eye contains every color of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. This means that the sun, those fancy table lamps, and your computer screen all give off blue-light waves. Blue light has the shortest wavelengths of the light spectrum and the highest energy.

Unlike UV rays, which are blocked from reaching the back of your eye, blue light is able to pass through your eye to your retina, the part of your eye that sends messages to your brain. That may not seem like a big deal, but there are some dangers associated with this.

Blue-Light Risks

Excessive exposure to blue light may put you at a greater risk for macular degeneration and digital eye strain, as well as sleep problems. However, at this point, studies are inconclusive when it comes to the extent of damage actually caused by blue light.

Digital eye strain, also called computer vision syndrome, may occur from looking at digital screens for long periods of time. Symptoms include blurry vision, dry eyes, headaches, and shoulder or neck pain. There are other factors that may contribute to your eye strain besides blue light. These include a glare on the screen, poor lighting, underlying vision problems, keeping the screen too close to your eyes, or poor posture.

When it starts to get dark in the evening, your body produces melatonin. This hormone has the important job of helping you fall asleep. Before artificial light sources were invented, sleep-wake cycles were determined by the sun, and these cycles were more difficult to break. Now, exposure to light at all times of day or night decreases melatonin production and interferes with sleep cycles, often making it hard to get a good night’s rest. The worst culprit is blue light, which seems to increase alertness more than other types of light. Look at screens right before bed or in bed, and you may have a harder time falling asleep.

Blue-Light Glasses

What if you could prevent the potentially negative side effects that come due to overexposure to blue light? With blue-light glasses, you may be able to do just that. Made with special filters that either block or absorb blue-light wavelengths, blue-light glasses are gaining popularity among those who work on computers daily.

Blue-light glasses claim to help prevent digital eye strain, protect eyes from vision loss, and help users sleep better at night. All you have to do to get these benefits is wear them while working at your computer during the day or while looking at screens in the evening.

Do They Work?

While it’s hard to say for sure whether blue-light glasses truly prevent eye strain or vision loss, many who use blue-light glasses as they work on computers find their eyes feel less tired at the end of the day. So if you deal with eye strain, it may be worth trying a pair of blue-light glasses.

Struggle to sleep at night? There is evidence that using blue-light glasses when looking at screens before bedtime may improve sleep.

Regardless of why you want to give blue-light glasses a try, look for a pair that filters light wavelengths of up to 455 nanometers and has a certification to prove it. Will your eyes thank you? Grab a pair and find out!
