Finish Fit boot camp has demonstrated to me that I am VERY capable of pushing my body to its limits. Prior to starting the class I was nervous because it had been a really long time since I had been physically active. With Finish Fit I am now 5 pounds away from my pre-baby weight, something I had been trying to lose for two years! Thanks Lauren, Brett and Armen for helping me lose 10 pounds in four weeks!

David Binns
My name is David Binns. I began working out three years ago and while I was able to lose weight, I still lacked tone. I began lifting but only showed very small results after a year. Since I have started training with Armen, I have gained about 8 lbs of muscle in a short 3 months. I have more energy, better stamina, and my workout regimen has improved as well to be more rounded. These are things that I tried to do myself by reading books on the subject but that I am now convinced only comes with years experience and an extended education in training. These are both things that Armen possesses and has used to guide me to very favorable results. Using his advice I have improved my diet, and focused on foods that help burn fat and build muscle. My workouts have reached new levels with him pushing me to attain the best results. Armen has also helped me to create a workout schedule for the whole week, not just at personal training. I would recommend personal training to anyone who wants fast results that last.

Freeze Your Fat Off

Does CoolSculpting really reduce fat, and is it safe?

Where is your trouble spot? Maybe it’s your belly, love handles, thighs, bottom, arms, or chin. Wherever it is, you’re not alone. Most people have areas of stubborn fat that just won’t seem to go away despite faithful dieting and exercise.

Enter stage left: CoolSculpting. A brand of cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting is a cosmetic treatment used to reduce targeted areas of body fat by freezing and killing fat cells. With no anesthesia or surgery involved and few negative side effects, CoolSculpting is considered a safer, faster, and less painful fat removal option than liposuction.

How does Coolsculpting work, is it effective, what are the risks of this relatively new weight-loss treatment, and how much does it cost? Keep reading to find out.

Cold Temperatures

During a Coolsculpting procedure, a plastic surgeon uses an applicator to suction the skin above your trouble spot. Cooling plates are then applied to the fat until the underlying cells are damaged and killed. You may feel a tugging sensation and the skin may feel numb, cool, and tingly.

Fat cells respond differently than normal cells to freezing temperatures. As fat cells are exposed to cold, they begin to break down and die, whereas other cells and surrounding tissue remain strong and healthy. Depending on the size of the target area, the process takes an average of 30 minutes to an hour.

Once damaged by the cold temperatures, fat cells take a few weeks to die and be eliminated from the body by the liver. Following treatment, you can expect to see the final results in about three to six months.

Does It Work?

If you’re curious about trying CoolSculpting, the most important question in your mind is whether it’s worth the investment. Currently, studies show the procedure has a high success rate. However, practitioners advise against viewing this as a miracle cure for excess weight. While it is helpful, all your fat won’t completely disappear. The area of fat you treat will decrease by roughly 20 percent and won’t return unless you gain more weight to take its place. Some people have more success than others, and a few have no success at all. If you continue to eat an unhealthy diet and lead a sedentary lifestyle or have diabetes or a metabolic condition, fat deposits will quickly return.

Is It Safe?

Studies show CoolSculpting to be a relatively safe procedure. Unlike weight-loss surgery, CoolSculpting is completely noninvasive and does no damage to the skin or underlying tissue. Because of this, there’s no recovery time after the procedure.

As proof of its safety, less than one percent of patients report complications following CoolSculpting treatment. The most common complaint is a slight loss of sensation in the treated area, but this side effect typically lasts only a month. Other possible negative side effects include bruising, tenderness, swelling, skin sensitivity, redness, muscle cramping, or pain at the treatment site. There’s no risk of scarring or skin pigment changes.

In extremely rare cases, people develop an increase in fat cells in the targeted area, causing the area to bulge out. And since CoolSculpting has only been developed in the last decade, the long-term risks and effectiveness are unknown.

The Cost

CoolSculpting is an elective cosmetic procedure, so don’t expect your health insurance to cover the cost. The amount you’ll pay will depend on the size of your targeted area, the experience of your technician, and the location of your services. Also, keep in mind that the more fat you have, the more treatments you may need. Small areas run anywhere from $700 to $900, but treat a large area and you may pay $1,200 to $1,500 per treatment session.
