My name is David Binns. I began working out three years ago and while I was able to lose weight, I still lacked tone. I began lifting but only showed very small results after a year. Since I have started training with Armen, I have gained about 8 lbs of muscle in a short 3 months. I have more energy, better stamina, and my workout regimen has improved as well to be more rounded. These are things that I tried to do myself by reading books on the subject but that I am now convinced only comes with years experience and an extended education in training. These are both things that Armen possesses and has used to guide me to very favorable results. Using his advice I have improved my diet, and focused on foods that help burn fat and build muscle. My workouts have reached new levels with him pushing me to attain the best results. Armen has also helped me to create a workout schedule for the whole week, not just at personal training. I would recommend personal training to anyone who wants fast results that last.

The Heavy World of Water Weight

What is it and how to lose it.

Did you know that at least half of your body weight is water? No wonder you need to drink so much water each day. Unfortunately, all that H2O can cause problems. Sometimes, your body holds onto more water than it needs. This is known as water weight.

Extra water in the body can cause bloating and swelling, especially in the legs, arms, and belly. When you take steps to lose weight, water weight often comes off first, so don’t be surprised if your weight fluctuates by two to four pounds in a single day.

Want to lose weight by getting rid of water weight? Here are six ways to go about it.

Eat Less Sodium

Your body needs some sodium to maintain good health. Among other things, this important mineral helps maintain the balance of fluids in your cells. But too much of it is not a good thing. A high-sodium diet causes your body to retain water in order to keep the water-sodium ratio in balance. The easiest way to rid your body of excess water weight is by eating less sodium.

It’s recommended that you consume no more than 2,300 mg of sodium a day, but the average adult consumes more than 3,400 mg! Watch what you eat, read ingredient labels, avoid processed foods, and swap out sodium-rich foods with low-sodium options. Then kiss the water weight good-bye.

Drink More Water

Yes, you read that right. One way to lose water weight is by drinking more water. Three out of four people are chronically dehydrated and don’t know it. Even slight dehydration tells the body to hold onto water. Drinking enough water throughout the day also helps the kidneys do their job of flushing the system of excess sodium and water.

The common recommendation is to drink 64 ounces (approximately two liters) of water a day. Keep a water bottle with you during the day and drink water at meals.

Eat Fewer Carbs

The carbs you eat are converted to glycogen and stored for energy. To be used for fuel, glycogen molecules bind themselves to water. One gram of glycogen holds onto three to four grams of water. If you’re not exercising to use up those glycogen stores, the water weight starts to add up. One way to prevent water weight is to eat fewer carbs. Do this by replacing bread, pasta, rice, and cereal in your diet with high-protein foods. Going on a low-carb diet often causes fast initial weight loss, the majority of which is water weight.

Get Regular Exercise

Many people notice the scale go down after just one workout. The reason is that a lot of water weight is lost through sweat. In addition, as you exercise, your body burns up glycogen energy stores and the water is eliminated through urine. Exercise also gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing, which helps reduce fluid buildup, mainly in your legs and feet.

Try Supplements

In addition to the steps listed above, you may want to take supplements to further reduce water retention. Magnesium oxide and vitamin B-6 are both natural remedies that help the kidneys flush extra sodium and water from the body. Just check with your doctor before taking new supplements.

Take Water Pills

Your doctor may prescribe water pills to help reduce water weight. Also known as diuretics, water pills work by triggering your kidneys to rid the body of more sodium, which takes water with it. This means you urinate more often. Water pills are used most often to treat high blood pressure. Less fluid circulating in your blood vessels leads to lower blood pressure. They’re also used to treat congestive heart failure and edema.
